From Curiosity to Passion: How One Question—and CrossFit—Helped Me Outrun Depression and Find My True Calling

You Don't Need Motivation. You Need Curiosity and Courage.

What if five years from now, you looked back and said, "I'm so glad I didn't give up on me"?

If you've ever felt like you're just drifting—stuck in routines, numb to progress, unsure of your purpose—this one's for you. Because the way out of that fog isn't motivation. It's a decision. One small moment of curiosity. One question:

"Could this help me?"

For me, that question changed everything.

Passion Doesn't Show Up Fully Formed

We all look at the greats—the pros, the people who make it look easy—and think, "I could never do that." Like Shaun White pulling off a perfect 1080 spin on a halfpipe. Or Steve Jobs launching the iPhone, or J.K. Rowling publishing Harry Potter. But it didn’t start with world-changing inventions or bestselling novels. It started with curiosity—learning how to code, writing in coffee shops, or simply figuring out how to get down a hill without falling.

That's how passion works. It begins as curiosity.

For me, I just wanted to feel better. Be someone I could be proud of. I didn't have a 5-year plan. I wasn't trying to build a business. I just wanted to know what my body was capable of.

So I walked into CrossFit.

Not because I was ready. Not because I knew what to expect. But because I was willing to find out.

Curiosity Turned Into a Calling

After CrossFit changed my life, I knew I wanted to help others—I just wasn't sure how. It was curiosity, and it started small. I was mopping floors at The Weight Room 24. Then I worked the front desk. Then I got certified as a trainer. Then I started coaching, managing, and leading.

Now I own CrossFit Fiend.

I'm the CEO, coach, community builder, marketing director—you name it. But none of this happened overnight. It didn’t happen because I had it all figured out. It happened because I stayed curious. I kept showing up.

Curiosity became competence. Competence became confidence. Confidence became a calling. And that calling? It became a mission to help others feel the same. Looking back, the passion was always there—it just needed a path. That path started with one step and let us see where this goes!

CrossFit Fiend Helped Me Outrun Depression

Depression wants you stuck. It wants you isolated. It wants you to be convinced that nothing ca

n change.

But CrossFit changed me. And it can change you.

The workouts gave me structure. The people gave me support. The challenge gave me purpose. It gave me an outlet when I had nothing else. It helped me become proud of my body, my effort, and eventually—my life.

It wasn’t a lightning bolt. It was a slow burn. A daily choice.

You Are Not Too Far Gone

I know what it feels like to think the best version of you is already behind you. But let me say this clearly: it’s not.

You don't need to be motivated. You just need to be willing.

Willing to ask: What if I gave this a shot? What if I didn’t give up on myself?

Because five years from now, you could be living a life you're deeply proud of—waking up energized, walking into a room with confidence, sharing laughter with people who lift you up, and doing things you once thought were out of reach. Surrounded by people who believe in you. Doing things you never thought you'd do.

All because of one small decision to get curious.

At CrossFit Fiend, we don’t just build athletes. We build people. People who overcome. People who belong. People who find purpose.
